If you still want to assemble your own furniture then here are a few tips:
- Be Prepared. Make sure you are able to move the furniture in place in the box that it comes in if possible. This will avoid scratching your valuable new acquisition.
- Assemble the correct tools. Many times the tools to assemble your furniture come with your new furniture, but are not really high quality items, but they will work. Often times, the tools that aren’t included will be indicated in the instructions for assembly that come with the furniture. Other than that, a set of screw drivers, allen keys and some standard wrenches always come in handy.
- Check the parts list at the beginning of the instructions. This is the point (before you start out) to make sure you actually have all the parts, if not, contact the vendor.
- FOLLOW the instructions! Gone are the days (mostly) of bad instructions written in a foreign language 🙂 Yes, follow the instructions, most times they are presented very well. If you are a master at assembling lego sets, you’ll be a master at assembling furniture 🙂
- Take your time! Don’t rush, that just doesn’t work out.
- Finally, a couple of tips that I’ve learned over the years – put down a blanket, or work on the box that the stuff comes in, that way it doesn’t scratch the floor. Also, the screws and bolts that come with furniture are not usually high grade, so you can’t torque them down like a beast, be gentle, but firm. Thirdly, the tools that come with the furniture are the bare minimum. It’s almost always better to use your own stuff because the quality is better. And lastly, be safe.
